It was the first time Australia competed as a team and when they arrived in London, they learned they needed special uniforms to march in the opening parade. The rugby union team won Australia's only gold medal. Snowy Baker and Frank Beaurepaire excelled. Baker was ranked the greatest all round athlete, and Beaurepaire began an Olympic career which spanned over 16 years.
